BUILDING THE FUTURE

Rebuilding Lives One Home at a Time

While some people have a negative opinion of Detroit, there are many who see the city as a clean canvas ready for renovation and restoration.

LifeBuilders Detroit has set out to restore communities that have faced disinvestment and lack of care for many years, particularly the Regent Park neighborhood. This area has been in desperate need of care and attention, being ridden with crime and a declining rate of schooling.

Those at LifeBuilders Detroit have answered the call to ministry within the neighborhood’s borders and seek to help redeem the blighted area. We had the amazing opportunity to team up with LifeBuilders and turn three rundown houses into homes bright with possibility.

What you see above is the beginning stages of the renovation. This is pretty much what all three houses looked like when we began the renovation process. One of the houses was even on the demolition list, but you’ll see further in this post what tender love and care can do to even the most shambled structure.

The goal was to get these houses renovated into safe, affordable, and comfortable living spaces for a new family to care for. LifeBuilders and JJ’s House Co. both have likeminded goals of rebuilding Detroit, so we made sure that each house received the utmost care and attention.

We started with getting all the items selected that would be going in the house as well as the basic needs of renovation including additional structural support and insulation.

Once that was completed and all the replacement windows had been installed, drywall was added throughout all three houses. With the addition of paint, tile, and hardwood flooring, the houses started to come together. There’s no better feeling in this line of work than watching projects fall in place.

Once all of that was handled, cabinets, backsplash, lighting, and all the other aesthetic pieces were installed, finishing up all of the final touches. What you have now are three beautiful homes completed and ready for residency.

Once the families move in and add their personal touches to the homes, these fresh spaces will exude life and be the talk of the block.
